I started studying banjo with Ryan Cavanaugh and learning this method in 2013. The Linear Melodic technique and philosophy have since been core tenants of my approach to banjo. I am honored and grateful to have the opportunity to be co-author of this book with Ryan. Contained here are several technical exercises and songs with notation and tablature designed to prime the banjo student for development of the Linear Melodic technique which is used to fluidly play single-note melodies on the 5-string banjo. The technique is ideal for fiddle tunes, improvisation in any musical genre, and the achievement of general expressive prowess on the instrument.
